Battlefield 6 Players Concur: Missions Are Excessively Difficult
The debut of the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 received broad praise, especially for its premier multiplayer mode. On Steam alone, simultaneous player numbers reached a high of nearly 750,000. However, in spite of its success, many players are expressing frustration over several of the title's toughest challenges, which are required to unlock specific weapons.
Users have commenced resorting to tailored sessions created through the Portal feature to complete them, highlighting just how grueling these assignments have become.
Grasping Battlefield 6 Objectives
Tasks represent Battlefield 6's fixed in-game challenges, as opposed to the frequently updated everyday and weekly missions. It features four categories of assignments, but although many simply offer outfits and select equipment, completing the weapon assignments is the exclusive means of getting twelve from the forty-one primary weapons found within the game.
A number of these gated guns may soon find their way on rosters of the top weapons in Battlefield 6.
Gamer Backlash via Reddit
Over on Reddit, players are justifiably voicing their concerns about how difficult and grindy a number of these challenges are. One user emphasized one of the most egregious examples, mandatory for acquiring the KTS100 MK8 LMG:
- Suppress 300 enemies with LMGs
- Inflict 10,000 hipfire damage with LMGs
"This mission is so awful and entirely ill-conceived, I want to scream in frustration," is a quote that summarizes just how frustratingly difficult these tasks are.
The suppression mechanic in Battlefield is less effective than in previous titles in the series, so it has significantly fewer benefits in combat as it did in previous games. It only registers as suppression if you miss multiple shots in a row.
Additionally, firing an LMG without aiming is wildly inaccurate and only works at point-blank proximity, which is not usually a position you want to be. The same user also highlighted the irony in the SMG challenge, required for the SCW-10, which demands eliminations when scoped in, when that mission would be considerably more fitting to hipfire kills, and the other way around.
Another Extremely Difficult Task
Another Reddit user highlighted a further incredibly demanding challenge, this time in the marksman rifle class to unlock the PSR:
- Get 150 headshot kills beyond 200 meters with long-range weapons
This is challenging enough as it is, but there's another important point to consider: the majority of Battlefield 6 maps fail to facilitate combat at those extended distances.
There's a healthy variety of map sizes, but given there are merely nine battlegrounds in the game right now, it restricts you to playing one of the larger locales, a particular valley environment, and possibly a classic map at a push if you aim to take long-range shots from beyond 200 meters.
The Alternative Method
However, there is a solution: Battlefield Portal. This portal feature is a feature that enables you to make custom game modes on any map you prefer, featuring computer-controlled players. This means you can exploit the mechanics… but it doesn't really seem like the developer's vision.
But when tackling the tasks in a standard match appears to work against fun, since you must engage in such an unconventional way that harms both you and your squad, who can fault a player for grinding them out in a private match so squad members are not disadvantaged?
Potential Changes
It won't come as a surprise if some of these assignments are adjusted to be less difficult in the near future, because should they remain unchanged, certain gamers simply will never acquire the gated weapons.
For now, the player base continues to share their thoughts on these strenuous in-game tasks, expecting a less arduous player experience in subsequent patches.
